Constructed of the same fabric as the Sweet Itch Hood and Sweet Itch Rug, the Bug Body Fly Rug is robust yet lightweight and fully breathable, water repellent, stops coat bleaching as well as protecting from midges, other flying/biting insects, dust and dirt. The Bug Body Fly Rug is suitable for horses and ponies with fly or insect sensitivity or allergies as well as Sweet Itch sufferers. It will keep you horse cool and comfortable all Summer long. Also excellent as a under layer in winter months, with or without the neck section.

Please note: this is not a lightweight mesh fly rug.

Our specialist breathable polyester/spandex fabric has been used successfully all over the world for decades, including in hot and tropical regions and for horses with severe Sweet Itch and sensitive skin.

It is designed to offer close, stretchy, nose-to-tail coverage and is similar in weight to a good-quality anti-itch summer sheet —
not a thin cottony mesh. Lightweight mesh may feel cooler in the hand, but it is often looser fitting, more flimsy and more prone to tearing, which is not ideal for itchy animals needing reliable protection.

The Snuggy Bug Body Fly Rug comes as a two piece neck and rug combo for versatility and ease of fitting. The rug part- with built in full belly band, tail wrap and XL flap, is fitted first. The neck piece then slips over the horse's head and is secured to the top and sides of the rug's neck with Velcro leaving no gaps. The top of the neck sits closely behind the ears even when the horse stretches down to graze and is elasticated, with adjustment, to prevent any insects getting inside. The mane area of the neck is lined with a seamless, silky, non stretch lining to prevent mane rubbing/hair loss.

Small straps are fitted to the withers and chest section of the rug to prevent gaps. The withers and chest areas are padded and elasticated to prevent pressure. Three Velcro patches are fitted to the rug and belly each side to achieve a close Snuggy fit and a strong anti-stretch binding is run along the spine of the Bug Body to keep the rug in shape and prevent it slipping backwards.

Plus there is also the option to add the Sweet Itch Mask with ears and mesh eyes, as well as Front Legs, Sheath Cover or Udder Cover for extra coverage for severe sufferers. These items are purchased separately and need the appropriate attachments sewn on to the Rug. During a sale/offer or discount period, customers are asked to add the appropriate attachments to their basket. If this is not done, you will receive an attachments pack with instructions leaflet, to enable you to add the necessary attachments yourself.
