THIS SIZE CHART IS A GUIDE ONLY - PLEASE CHECK FITTING INSTRUCTIONS AND VIDEOS AND CONTACT US IF AT ALL UNSURE ABOUT THE FIT.

IF IN DOUBT - DON'T TURN OUT

PLEASE BE INCREDIBLY FUSSY WITH THE FITTING OF ANY PRODUCT COVERING THE HORSES FACE. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR HORSE UNATTENDED UNLESS YOU ARE CONFIDENT THAT THE HORSE IS HAPPY AND THAT YOU ARE HAPPY WITH THE FIT. IF UNSURE, PLEASE REMOVE IT IMMEDIATELY AND CONTACT US, OR PHOTOGRAPH IT ON YOUR HORSE IF YOU WOULD LIKE US TO CHECK.

AS WITH ANY ITEM, ILL FIT CAN CAUSE RUBBING AND CAN MOVE WHICH CAN BE DANGEROUS. THAT SAID, WE MUST ADD, THAT THE BEST FITTING HOOD AND RUG CAN MOVE IF CAUGHT ON SOMETHING OR RUBBED OR PULLED AT. UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS.

Different fabrics will fit slightly differently due to the difference in stretch. Please read the following advice if you feel your horse may be between sizes or you are unsure which size to choose.

Lycra Hoods are very stretchy so choose smaller rather than bigger.

Our weatherproof fabric has a medium amount of stretch so choose the size which best describes your horse when referring to the size guide above. This applies to Turn Out Hoods, Headless Turn Out Hoods, Turn Out Heads, Sweet Itch Hoods, Sweet Itch Heads and Headless Sweet Itch Hoods

Fleece only has a 2-way stretch so choose bigger rather than smaller if in between sizes.

Please contact us if you have any questions about sizing. All Hoods come complete with fitting instructions to help you when trying on for the first time.

Hoods must be positioned JUST BEHIND THE WITHERS with the surcingle being done up directly behind the foreleg and the hood sitting straight up from the elbow and over the withers. Pull all excess fabric into the shoulder and neck area. DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO SIT ANY FURTHER BACK THAN THE GIRTH AREA.

Rugs

It is worth having a good read through this advice prior to ordering as our sizing is not really comparable to regular rug fitting.

Basically, the rugs/blankets are cut true to length (if you lay it flat, it will measure the length on the label) BUT as there is stretch in the fabric - and the fit is recommended to be tight (not roomy, loose or long), many do opt for smaller sizes than they would normally purchase in a Turn Out Rug or similar non-stretch, loose fitting rug/blanket.

(for example, Lucky our Shire horse ambassador in the photo here is 17.3 and would normally wear a 7'0 draft size rug/blanket. She comfortably wears our 6'6 (78") as shown here in the photo)

SHIRE HORSE IN SWEET ITCH SET

We recommend that all customers are super fussy with the fit, following the advice videos carefully, before leaving on the horse or pony. If unsure, take a couple of photos and email them to us to check (side view, rug/blanket pulled back, photo from side and rear).

We advise when trying on a rug, stand to the rear of your horse and give the rug a good tug back.  This will give you an idea of where the rug will sit after a period of time.  The rug must not hang over the base of the tail even when pulled back. The seam for the tail protection should sit just above the base of the tail. The rug neck is designed to sit high in front of the shoulder blade, a good 5 inches or so in front of the sensitive wither area. The neck must be tight, the neck and chest area will loosen off with use and will mold to the horses shape.

If in doubt you can measure your horse’s/pony’s rug size using a tape measure.  If the horse is between sizes when measured then we advise to try the smaller size.

Measure from centre of the chest around the body to the back of the hind leg, the red dots on the images below indicate where to take your measurement from:

Different fabrics have a different amount of stretch and therefore may fit differently. Please read the following advice when choosing a rug size or if you are unsure.

Lycra Rugs are very stretchy so choose smaller rather than bigger.

Our weatherproof rugs have a medium amount of stretch so order your horse’s\pony’s usually rug size or the closest size to their actual measurement - opting for the smaller size if the horse is between sizes or their regular rug is roomy or long. This applies to Winter Under Rug, Base Body, Sweet Itch Rug, and Bug Body.

Fleece Rugs have a minimum stretch so order your horse’s/pony’s actual rug size or measurement - again smaller if the horse is between sizes.

Lightweight Rug Liners have no stretch in the fabric so choose bigger rather than smaller.

If in doubt please contact us for advice. All Rugs come complete with fitting instructions to help you when trying on for the first time.BE FUSSY !! Get in touch with photos if you'd like a second opinion.
