Product Description
The Headless Turn Out Hood from Snuggy Hoods is perfect for all those wanting to keep their horse as clean as possible and protect the mane without covering the face. It covers neck, chest, shoulders & withers and can be used both in the field and stable - rain, shine or snow under any stable or turn out rug.
**PLEASE STUDY THE FITTING ADVICE CAREFULLY - WE DO RECOMMEND THAT THE HORSE IS STABLED WHEN FIRST TRYING ANY HOOD**
The Headless Turn Out Hood is fixed in place with an adjustable velcro belly band on the girth. Constructed of a fully breathable, robust, comfortable, machine washable fabric and lined with a seamless, shiny fabric through the mane and shoulder. The Headless Turn Out Hood is water repellent, mud proof and wind proof.
The Headless Turn Out Hood is elasticated and adjustable around the top and cut extra long so it sits securely behind the ears even when the neck is extended down fully to graze. There is the option of a zip for ease of fitting which runs from top to almost bottom of chest. Without the zip the Hood is ‘pull on’ so simply slipped over the nose and pulled back into position. (see the videos and fitting guides for more info)
ZIP OR PULL ON ? - we would always recommend a pull on hood unless the horse is head shy. Why? Less fiddly, Less to break, Less Bulky. If your horse is head shy or would find fitting stressful or upsetting, we would always recommend a zipped hood.
Our NO. 1 BEST SELLER for winter mane protection! To avoid winter mane rubbing and subsequently mane loss we recommend to use the Headless Turn Out Hood all Winter WITHOUT high or full neck rugs as much as possible. We suggest to only use rugs with necks on very wet or very cold days - the Headless Turn Out Hood is more than adequate protection for your horse or pony otherwise.
TOP TIP - Grease is a common cause for mane loss/rubbing. To reduce mane loss use the Headless Turn Out Hood but wash it regularly to keep the lining grease free. Ensure the mane is clean and non greasy too for best results!
Use with the Turn Out Head on those disgusting days when you need to keep the mud/cold at bay on your horse or pony's face and ears! The Headless Turn Out Hood attaches to the Turn Out Head with a velcro loop and d-ring for security and to prevent gaps. Being self-fixing the Headless Turn Out Hood can be used with any rug but works perfectly with the Winter Under Rug (formerly Spik and Span Rug) or Fleece Jams Rug for complete coverage including the whole belly.

Fitting Advice
Fitting Advice
Please make sure to study our Fitting Advice and Size Guide pages for further information. You will also find helpful videos on fitting your product properly on the Fitting Advice page.
FITTING ADVICE - please ensure the following ... (and watch the fitting videos)
The surcingle is designed to sit ON THE GIRTH - as near the foreleg as possible and as tight as possible to prevent it slipping back along the body.
The cuff around the head end of the hood should be TIGHT ! This is to prevent the hood sliding back along the neck.
When the horses head is down eating he or she should take up all the slack in the neck. If in doubt - do not turn out. Contact us directly with photos if possible.
PLEASE BE INCREDIBLY FUSSY WITH THE FITTING OF ANY PRODUCT COVERING THE HORSES FACE. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR HORSE UNATTENDED UNLESS YOU ARE CONFIDENT THAT THE HORSE IS HAPPY AND THAT YOU ARE HAPPY WITH THE FIT. IF UNSURE, PLEASE REMOVE IT IMMEDIATELY AND CONTACT US, OR PHOTOGRAPH IT ON YOUR HORSE IF YOU WOULD LIKE US TO CHECK.
AS WITH ANY ITEM, ILL FIT CAN CAUSE RUBBING AND CAN MOVE WHICH CAN BE DANGEROUS. THAT SAID, WE MUST ADD, THAT THE BEST FITTING HOOD AND RUG CAN MOVE IF CAUGHT ON SOMETHING OR RUBBED OR PULLED AT. UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS.

The best thing i’ve ever bought! totally worth the money! it has helped my boy so much! xx
I have started using these on my sweet itch horses when they don't need a full sheet but are still itching their manes/necks (which seems to be year round...). These hoods are very sturdy, work fantastic and don't slide down, even with my colt who spends half his day running laps in the pasture. They run true to size but sizing up makes it infinitely easier to get it over the horses heads and they still work great.
Very well made. Worth every penny!
Always found Snuggyhood products very good.
My boy is a mud fiend and his snuggy hood means it keeps his mane and neck mud free when he goes rolling. The mud brushes off it so easily that I don’t even need to take it off!! He wears it as extra cover in his stall overnight - I call it his PJs :-)) I’m glad I got them in the Black Friday deal too. I treated myself to the washbag as well - absolutely brilliant, get one!! The strongest velcro in the world haha! Definitely a converted fan - thank you for a great product xx
