Alterations 

Snuggy Hoods are happy to carry out alterations to all Snuggy Branded Hoods and Rugs. 

Prices start at £25 which includes UK return postage. (non-UK repairs and alterations will be charged postage and are expected to get their hoods and rugs back to us at your own cost). 

Please email or whatsapp (00447485 939270) a full description and photos of what needs to be done and we will reply with a quotation. 

Any used items being returned for repair or alteration must be freshly machine washed at 40-60 degrees with plenty of detergent and softener. They must be fresh, clean and bone dry before packing up with a note containing full contact details and reference to your message and photos. 

You will be invoiced for your Repair/Alteration when it is ready to return (unless this is added to an existing order).

The Snuggy Bug Body ® Fly Rug  is sure to become a 'must have' in every equine's wardrobe. Offering comprehensive poll to dock protection - the Snuggy Bug Body® Fly Rug is the most innovative, protective 'bug rug' on the market.

Constructed of the same fabric as the Sweet Itch Hood and Sweet Itch Rug, the Bug Body Fly Rug is robust yet lightweight and fully breathable, water repellent, stops coat bleaching as well as protecting from midges, other flying/biting insects, dust and dirt. The Bug Body Fly Rug is suitable for horses and ponies with fly or insect sensitivity or allergies as well as Sweet Itch sufferers. It will keep you horse cool and comfortable all Summer long. Also excellent as a under layer in winter months, with or without the neck section.

The Snuggy Bug Body Fly Rug comes as a two piece neck and rug combo for versatility and ease of fitting. The rug part- with built in full belly band, tail wrap and XL flap, is fitted first. The neck piece then slips over the horse's head and is secured to the top and sides of the rug's neck with Velcro leaving no gaps. The top of the neck sits closely behind the ears even when the horse stretches down to graze and is elasticated, with adjustment, to prevent any insects getting inside. The mane area of the neck is lined with a seamless, silky, non stretch lining to prevent mane rubbing/hair loss.

Small straps are fitted to the withers and chest section of the rug to prevent gaps. The withers and chest areas are padded and elasticated to prevent pressure. Three Velcro patches are fitted to the rug and belly each side to achieve a close Snuggy fit and a strong anti-stretch binding is run along the spine of the Bug Body to keep the rug in shape and prevent it slipping backwards.

Plus there is also the option to add the Sweet Itch Mask with ears and mesh eyes, as well as Front Legs, Sheath Cover or Udder Cover for extra coverage for severe sufferers. These items are purchased separately and need the appropriate attachments sewn on to the Sweet Itch Rug. During a sale/offer or discount period, customers are asked to add the appropriate attachments to their basket. If this is not done, you will receive an attachments pack with instructions leaflet, to enable you to add the necessary attachments yourself.

"Spare" Detachable Bug Body Neck cover, this neck cover can only be used with the Bug Body. If you are wishing to add to an existing rug (not a Bug Body which has the velcro around the neck attached), the attachments are included but must be sewn in place to use. 

The top of the neck sits closely behind the ears even when the horse stretches down to graze and is elasticated, with adjustment, to prevent any insects getting inside. The mane area of the neck is lined with a seamless, silky, non stretch lining to prevent mane rubbing/hair loss.

This neck comes with the attachments to sew onto a rug of your choice or to use with a Bug Body which already has the neck attachments sewn in place. It cannot be used alone.

The Snuggy Fleece Saddle Cover is made from the softest polar fleece and is elasticated around the whole edge for a close, secure fit. This Fleece Saddle Cover fits all types / styles of saddles including dressage saddle, showing saddles and jumping saddles.

Front Leg Covers are made from the same clever fabric as the Sweet Itch Rug & Bug Body, they cover the front legs  from elbow to just above the knee. These horse leg covers are a clever, unique design protecting the upper part of the foreleg from midges, flies, other biting insects & harmful UV rays. The foreleg can be particularly sensitive especially on the inside where the coat is fine & thin.

Snuggy Front Leg Covers are designed specifically for use with the Sweet Itch Rug or Bug Body. They attach with hook & loop strips/d-rings to outside of the rug on the shoulder area and the inside edge of the Belly Band which sits (and covers) between the front legs.  These horse leg covers have been successfully trialed & used by thousands on customers for over 10 years and are an excellent choice for additional coverage if your horse or pony suffers badly from Sweet Itch or other environment related allergies.

The Front Leg Covers are detachable for ease of fitting and washing so can be used as and when required. They are designed to be a close fit to prevent flies/insects getting up inside but do allow movement of the front leg for comfort and durability. The fabric is fully breathable so cool, yet robust. It does not allow insects to bite through and does filter UV rays.

PLEASE NOTE - The Sweet Itch Rug/Bug Body does not come as standard with the Front Leg attachments. If you already have the  or Bug Body you will need to sew on the provided Front Leg attachments - Front Leg Covers bought alone will arrive complete with an attachment pack including all pieces needed to sew on to your rug and an instruction sheet.  If you don't required this attachment pack (if your rug already has the attachments) please let us know when ordering and we won't send you the extra pack.

What is Sweet Itch?

Sweet Itch is caused by an allergic reaction to the bites of the Culicoides midge and, to a lesser extent, Simulium Equinum. At present there is no known cure for Sweet Itch. Once an equine develops the allergy it is generally affected every Spring, Summer and Autumn. There are two approaches to improving the comfort of an affected animal: to minimize the allergic reaction with corticosteroids, anti-histamines or soothing lotions or to minimise midge attack using a Sweet Itch Hood/Rug. The second method offers the most effective protection and avoids the need to use harsh chemicals, expensive repellents and messy oils or greases. The Snuggy Sweet Itch Hood has been approved by Veterinary professionals for the prevention of the midge bite allergic reaction.

The Headless Turn Out Hood from Snuggy Hoods is perfect for all those wanting to keep their horse as clean as possible and protect the mane without  covering the face. It covers neck, chest, shoulders & withers and can be used both in the field and stable -  rain, shine or snow under any stable or turn out rug.

The Headless Turn Out Hood is fixed in place with an adjustable velcro belly band on the girth. Constructed of a fully breathable, robust, comfortable, machine washable fabric and lined with a seamless, shiny fabric through the mane and shoulder. To avoid winter mane rubbing and subsequently mane loss we recommend to use the Headless Turn Out Hood all Winter WITHOUT high or full neck rugs as much as possible. TOP TIP - Grease is a common cause for mane loss/rubbing. To reduce mane loss use the Headless Turn Out Hood but wash it regularly to keep the lining grease free. Ensure the mane is clean and non greasy too for best results!

Use with the Turn Out Head on those disgusting days when you need to keep the mud/cold at bay on your horse or pony's face and ears! The Headless Turn Out Hood attaches to the Turn Out Head with a velcro loop and d-ring for security and to prevent gaps. The surcingle is designed to sit ON THE GIRTH - as near the foreleg as possible and as tight as possible to prevent it slipping back along the body.

The cuff around the head end of the hood should be TIGHT ! This is to prevent the hood sliding back along the neck.

When the horses head is down eating he or she should take up all the slack in the neck. If in doubt - do not turn out. Contact us directly with photos if possible.

PLEASE BE INCREDIBLY FUSSY WITH THE FITTING OF ANY PRODUCT COVERING THE HORSES FACE. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR HORSE UNATTENDED UNLESS YOU ARE CONFIDENT THAT THE HORSE IS HAPPY AND THAT YOU ARE HAPPY WITH THE FIT. The Snuggy Horse Shoulder Guard (formerly Silky Bib) is suitable for use under any rug or hood to prevent rubs to chest, shoulders and withers. The fabric is lightweight, silky, cool and comfortable so suitable for use all year round.

The Snuggy Jams Hood is made from the softest, cosy polar fleece and covers face, ears, neck and chest. It will help to stop a Winter coat come through so quickly, keep a clipped coat for longer and add shine/help the coat lie flat.

The Jams Hood is lined through the mane and shoulder area with a no-seam silky fabric to prevent rubbing, the nose band is adjustable for a good fit. There is the option of a zip for ease of fitting which runs from chin to chest. Without the zip the Hood is ‘pull on’ so simply slipped over the nose and pulled back into position.

This Body Rug is best teamed with the Snuggy Lycra Hood but can also be used alone or with any other self fixing hood. We strongly believe a two piece (Hood and Rug) combination is more comfortable for the horse or pony to wear as in our experience all-in-one Lycra suits can ride backwards creating pressure and pulling up into the eyes/face. The Snuggy Lycra Hood is made of the finest, durable, nylon shiny spandex which is comfortable and breathable. This stretch Lycra Hood covers face, ears, shoulders, neck, mane, withers and chest. It features an optional zip, adjustable noseband, elastic chest strap and velcro belly band. There is the option of a zip for ease of fitting which runs from chin to chest. Without the zip the Lycra Hood is ‘pull on’ so simply slipped over the nose and pulled back into position the secured with the belly band.

Powerful formulation to remove in-ground grass and stable stains quickly and effectively. Ideal for use on greys and other light coloured horses and ponies but still suitable for all other skin and colour types. NETTEX 7 DAY MUD AWAY SPRAY - 500ml

An innovative formulation that prevents mud, dirt and grime sticking to the coat for up to seven days.

It is a unique product that helps to prevent the build-up of mud to all areas of the horse resulting in easier winter grooming. It can be used all year round to aid quicker grooming as mud, muck and dirt simply brush away easily leaving a smooth coat. It is ideal to use in the winter during adverse weather conditions to help keep mud at bay. It can be used on the body, legs, mane and tail and is suitable for all horses and ponies.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Shake well before use. Always patch test an area first and wait 48 hours. If a reaction occurs stop use immediately. Spray evenly over the required areas taking care not to saturate as this may cause irritation, a little goes a long way. Brush through manes and tails after application to ensure hair is covered. Allow to dry before turning horse or pony out. Reapply every seven days or as necessary depending on mud conditions. Do not use under boots or rugs. Do not use on broken, sore or bare skin. Always patch test an area first and wait 48 hours. If a reaction occurs stop use immediately.

EXPERT TIPS

How can you prevent mud fever?

Mud fever can be prevented by keeping your horse clean and dry and treating any cuts and grazes as soon as they occur. However, we don’t live in a perfect world, so most horses are exposed to muddy and wet conditions over winter.

The key to preventing mud fever is to prevent prolonged mud contact, minimise skin trauma and maintain healthy skin & a healthy immune system.

Preventing prolonged mud contact

Where horses are turned out in wet and muddy conditions paddock boots can be used to protect the legs from mud. However, they need careful attention to prevent rubbing and skin trauma. Instead use NETTEX Barrier Cream which helps protect skin from mud and also has antibacterial and moisturising properties to keep skin supple and in great condition.

The next generation of protection from mud are barrier sprays. NETTEX Seven Day Mud Away acts in the same way as a barrier cream, but is easier to apply. NETTEX Seven Day Mud Away prevents mud sticking to the coat allowing quick removal by simple brushing. Application is required only once a week and it provides an effective barrier against mud meaning less washing of legs in the winter and making management much simpler.

Maintaining healthy skin and a healthy immune system will mean that your horse will be less likely to suffer from mud fever. Good general healthcare and ensuring that your horse has a balanced diet are essential. Feeding an oil that has high levels of essential fatty acids will improve skin and coat condition. NETTEX Linseed Oil is ideal as it contains high levels of Omega-3 fatty acids which have been shown to benefit the skin.

Sold as a set of 2, These advanced high-cut mud fever boots are made with Air-Tech ventilated neoprene for maximum breath-ability. Anatomically shaped to provide superior comfort for your horse whilst supporting the cannon bone and soft tissues. Fatigue is reduced in the tendon, fetlock, ligaments and suspensory. The boots cover the whole of the lower leg and pastern area, making them great for use as a preventative measure against mud fever and chills. Suitable for year-round use in paddocks. Can be used on both front and hind legs.

The fabric layers work together to distribute even airflow and manage heat removal. Excellent stretch and recovery properties allow the boot to mold and retain shape without impeding the natural action of a horse moving.

Pique jersey outer and lining wicks away moisture, is highly breathable, quick drying and soft to the touch. Perforated neoprene allows heat from the leg to escape and cool air to enter the boot and circulate the leg. It also does not retain water.
